L' azienda Piancanelli
There is an area of Piedmont, enclosed between the Langa Asti and Monferrato, on which the "marin", the wind that comes from the sea, blows for several days a year.
That wind has not lost its way, because what caresses, runs through and imbues with itself, is nothing more than a different sea, made up of hills like waves and green vineyards including the "marin" arouses a particular microclimate, favoring the ripening of the grapes and enhancing their aromatic characteristics.
In this precious area, where the harmonious landscape of the rows, created over the centuries by the work of man, contrasts with the dizzying harshness of the deep natural cracks that open between the hills, 400 meters above sea level, is located and operates the Piancanelli winery of Silvio Laiolo.
Founded as Farm from Domenico Laiolo and his wife Teresa Penna In the climate of enthusiasm and rebirth of the first post-war period and grown by the work and hopeful fatigue of those times of redemption, the company was gradually expanded, until, from cultivation alone, it passed to the vinification of the grapes.
In the 80s, Joseph Laiolo, Domenico's son, converted it from a farm to purely Wine, increasing their productions and structures and starting to look at a wider and more diverse market that can discover and appreciate the qualities of these excellent vines and the wines that derive from them.
Since 1996, the Piancanelli Company has been in charge of the Silvio Laiolo, enologist son of Giuseppe, who, while looking at a development of the business in keeping with the times, maintains the family business (supported only in part by workers specialized in the wine sector) and the commitment of past generations to the creation of the product.
Piancanelli wines are born, develop and complement each other according to the natural characteristics of the place where the vines are growing: no forcing, no useless exaltation, only care and a strict and meticulous control of quality at every stage of the cultivation process first, and then winemaking.

At Piancanelli, the concept of quality is all-inclusive, covering everything involved in the creation of the product: the corks are made of certified top-quality, ozone-sterilised Sardinian cork, and the packaging is in three-layer cardboard to ensure a high degree of thermal insulation and thus proper conservation.
Exports, which have had an increasingly significant weight in the last fifteen years, reaching the current 65% of turnover, are mainly aimed at European states and the Far East.
In addition to the undoubted quality, which has always been awarded in national and international competitions, the wines of the Piancanelli company also carry with them the flavor of history, represented by the label with the coat of arms of the Laiolo family, one of the oldest in the Asti area: six lizards, from whose name in dialect, "laiò", derives the family surname.
These large and silent green lizards that immobile in the sun of the vines guard, like incarnations of ancestral ancestors, the growth of gnarled vines and bunches, in the rows of hot land.
